SOCIAL WELFARE

The Department commits proper and efficient implementation of all the schemes of the Ministry of Social Welfare & Nutritious Meal Programme.

The Department shall formulate plans, policies and programmes for the welfare of women and children.

Endeavour that children and women in need of care and protection grow up in good and secure conditions.

Act in close co-operation to promote the comprehensive physical and social development of children and women.

Ensure that children and women in danger of developing in and undesirable direction receive the protection and support they need and if their interests so demand, be cared for and brought up in institutionalized care.

Implement innovative programmes in the areas of welfare and support services for the destitute women and children and elderly citizens.

Monitor the proper implementation of the schemes to ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach only the poor and the deserving

Coordinate the efforts of both Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations to bring out the best of both the approaches.

Enact policies for enhancing child survival, reducing malnutrition and morbidity and promoting healthy childhood by providing services like nutrition, immunization, health check up, referral services and pre school education.

Resolve to support the most neglected and destitute sections of the society. Take steps to ensure that women like widows, deserted women and orphan girls are given a chance to lead a normal happy life.

Establish and run institutions to provide care and protection to widows, destitute and deserted women.

Support the financial resources of the poor parents for conducting the marriage of their daughters.

Promote inter-caste marriages and widow remarriage.

Tamil Nadu Government Girl child protection scheme

Free supply of Sewing machine

Sewing machines will be supplied to Poor Widows, Destitutes, Physically handicapped at free of cost.

Free supply of Books and Note books to the School Going Children of Poor widows

Under this Scheme, Text books and Note Books will be distributed at free of cost to the School going children of poor widows.

Cradle Baby Scheme

This Scheme is implemented w.e.f.17.03.2002 in Dindigul District. One reception center at Government Hospital Dindigul and 30 Cradle points are functioning in this District. So far 2 female babies (i.e. one is surrendered baby from Seelapadi Village on 17.10.02 and another one abandoned baby from Nilakottai, Government Hospital Cradle point on 26.11.2002) had been received and handed over to Gandhigram Adoption Centre.

Government Orphanage

The Government Orphanage was started during 1985. Now 237 Children are admitted and studying, classes from 1st std. to +2 std. From 6th to +2 they are sent outside for education. Books & Note Books Uniforms are given to the students at free of cost, Good meals have been provided to the poor orphanage children.

Special Programmes:

To Uplift the downtrodden women and to provide employment opportunity the following co-operative societies are functioning:

  • Annai Sathya Women Tailoring Industrial Co-operative Society, Chinnalapatti.
  • Annai Abirami Women Tailoring Industrial Co-op Society, Dindigul
  • Dindigul District Stationery Manufacturing Women Development Industrial Co-op Society, Dindigul.

Stitching of uniforms to school going children, re under taken by the above societies and 1067 women members are benefited from these societies.
